1. The Integration of Printing and Post-Press

For example, some machines can perform hot stamping, lamination, and even partial printing in one go. 2. Flat-Press Technologies Make a Comeback
Techniques like flat-press die-cutting, flat-press screen printing, and flat-press hot stamping are gaining renewed interest. For label printing, speed is not always the top priority; instead, quality and cost-effectiveness are more critical. Although flat-press methods may not match high-speed production in efficiency or precision, they offer significant advantages in terms of visual impact and overall cost. As a result, they have made a strong return in the market. Recently, at major label exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, leading companies like Smag and ABG have introduced flat-press post-press solutions. Even KBA's new Varius LX-TX narrow web offset press features a modular design that incorporates a flat-screen device from Kammann. Domestically, Beijing Ou Lu Xinda has launched a high-speed flat-press die-cutter that enables continuous rewinding and feeding, combining the benefits of low cost and simplicity with the efficiency of continuous operation. Hong Taixiang has also introduced a similar flat-press die-cutter for continuous paper feeding.
3. The Two-Step Method Remains Dominant
Label production typically follows either a “one-step†or “two-step†approach. The one-step method involves completing both printing and post-processing in a single pass. However, as the number of steps required increases, it becomes impractical to handle everything in one go. This is due to the limitations of individual machines and the increased waste that comes with more complex, continuous processes. On the other hand, the two-step method separates printing and post-processing onto different machines, offering greater flexibility. While it may be slower and less efficient, it remains the preferred choice for short to medium runs. It provides a balanced solution that meets the needs of many businesses in the industry.
