Definition and goals of environmental protection packaging The objectives and requirements of environmental protection packaging go through the entire process of product design, production, packaging, and sales, and until waste utilization and recycling. Environmental packaging requirements The packaging of commodities must meet the requirements of harmlessness, non-pollution and environmental protection from the selection, development, processing, use and recycling of raw materials. At present, developed countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, and France have formulated corresponding regulations and policies on packaging, and some countries have implemented the “environmental protection mark” system to strengthen the environment of manufacturers, importers, and retailers. With the rising awareness of environmental protection and the global economic and industrial system, the concept of “zero packaging” and “green packaging” led by packaging revolution is emerging and put into practice. Green goods and green packaging have become new hot spots. Green packaging is a high-tech form of packaging. From the beginning of raw materials, to the design and manufacture of packaging, and to the recycling of products, every link must be source-cut, efficient, and harmless.
3. What is green packaging printing? Inseparable from packaging is the environmental issue caused by printing. The EU recently required that the concentration of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated biphenyls in the packaging must be less than 100 ppm (0.01%). This standard began to receive attention from the packaging industry in China. Some inorganic pigments contain lead, chromium, copper, mercury and other heavy metal elements, which have certain toxicity and cannot be used for printing food packaging. In printing inks, organic solvents such as ethanol, isopropanol, butanone, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, toluene, and xylene are often used, which are toxic and flammable, and are not conducive to environmental protection, health, and safety. Although most of the residue can be removed by drying, the residual solvent will migrate into the food and endanger human health. Therefore, water-based alcohol inks and water-based polish thinners should be used in packaging printing, and the inorganic substances contained in etching solutions used in the plate making process and heavy metal electroplating solutions, photographic films, and organic substances contained in offset printing development washing waste liquids should be used.
