The Guangzhou Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences uses carbon dioxide and propylene oxide as raw materials to prepare polycarbonate polyols with a relative molecular weight of about 3000 and a molar fraction of carbonate groups in the molecule ranging from 30% to 40%. This raw material and all water are used. The method of foaming prepares an aliphatic polycarbon polyurethane semi-rigid plastic.
This semi-rigid polyurethane has higher strength and density than conventional semi-rigid foams. In addition, since the foam contains a large number of -COO structural units, its combustion heat is much lower than that of polyether polyurethane foam, polyester polyurethane foam, etc., and has a certain degree of flame retardancy. Studies have also shown that polyethylene carbonate polyurethane foams obtained with carbon dioxide and ethylene oxide as starting materials have good biodegradability and are very favorable for environmental protection.
