3D printed raspberry pie camera gives a photo of the moon

How many of us have tried to take a photo of a beautiful moon with a smartphone, and the result is a blurry light group? Xiaobian has encountered such a situation, so when I come across a 3D printing project that can solve such problems, I pay special attention. This is a solution from James Mitchell from Berlin. He used a Raspberry Pi, a Canon EF lens, and a 3D printed lens adapter to capture a detailed and amazing moon. photo.

James Mitchell said that he had long wanted to shoot a few high-quality shots about the moon, but tried a series of photography methods, from zoom to telephoto lenses, but it was always unsuccessful. He recalled that "It has been a small wish in my heart to shoot the moon for a long time. In fact, since I started to play photography, this wish has already existed. I guess it is my love for impossible images and science fiction. Drives me to shoot a photo of the moon."

After many failed attempts, Mitchell accidentally came into contact with the Raspberry Pi camera (a raspberry-based camera module), which offered him the possibility of achieving 5 megapixel resolution. In addition, Mitchell found a 3D printing design for the Canon EF lens adapter on the web. This made his dream of shooting the moon more and more close to reality.

To make the moon camera, Mitchell first found a local 3D printing service company in Berlin to print out the lens adapter. Although his own print adapter is red, Mitchell recommends using black plastic because it can completely isolate external light interference. When the adapter was printed, Mitchell took the lens from his Raspberry Pi camera, then connected the camera to the 3D printed adapter, then loaded his 18-55mm Canon lens set and was surprised to see the effect.

He explained that because the DIY camera device has a sensor of up to 5 megapixels, it can capture details like the moon, and it shows only a small part of the entire lens's visible range. Mitchell explained: "In fact, you can put your finger on the edge of the lens and it won't be captured by the Raspberry Pi camera."

The method was found, and the rest is logical. Mitchell used his 78-300mm lens to photograph his most successful moon photo on his balcony (pictured below). The reddish hue in the original photo was obviously affected by its red 3D print adapter, so Mitchell used Photoshoppe to process it, removing the red tint, and the results were very impressive. Despite the desire to shoot the moon, Mitchell is not satisfied, he hopes to try more than 300 mm lens to see if it can produce better results.
