On March 13, 2015, Guangdong Province released its first major announcement of defective products this year, highlighting a wide range of unsafe goods that pose serious risks to consumers. As the annual 315 Consumer Rights Day approached, the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce conducted a thorough inspection and issued a warning to businesses, requiring them to stop sales, issue recalls, and destroy the listed items within 15 days.
The investigation uncovered 112 defective products across various categories, including textiles, clothing, electronics, baby strollers, toys, and gas stoves. Among these, 13 household textile items and 9 garments failed quality tests. Notably, several well-known brands were found to have substandard products. For instance, Zhiyang, Jinshi, Baifudi, and Joy Love China were among the top brands in the textile category, while Ai Xuehai, Shi Xiaolong, Classic TeddyPearl, and others were flagged for theirä¸åˆæ ¼ (unqualified) products. Some of these items contained carcinogenic dyes that can release harmful aromatic amines, raising serious health concerns, especially with children's clothing being affected.
In addition to textiles, 13 baby strollers and 6 toys were also recalled due to safety hazards. Products such as the Shunle Baby Bike, the legendary Babe Stroller, and SmurfsTM toy cars were found to have dangerous flaws, including structural cracks and unqualified locking mechanisms. These issues could lead to injuries like cuts or pinches. Similarly, the packaging plastic films used in some toys posed a choking hazard for young children.
Among the most concerning items were 29 gas stoves that failed safety inspections. Brands like Crown Gas Stove from Jiangmen City and Qitian Gas Stove from Zhongshan Jiebang Electric Appliance Co. were included in the list. The defects involved critical safety features such as flameout protection devices and intake pipe sizes, which, if not properly functioning, could result in gas leaks, explosions, or fires.
This comprehensive recall reflects Guangdong's growing emphasis on consumer safety and product accountability. With the upcoming 315 Consumer Rights Day, the announcement serves as a reminder to both businesses and consumers about the importance of product quality and transparency. Consumers are advised to check the list of recalled items and take necessary actions to protect themselves and their families.
