The European Union defines nanomaterials ...

EU adopts nanomaterials definition

Nano-material is a powder or agglomerate natural or artificial material composed of basic particles. The three-dimensional size of one or more of this basic particle is between 1 nanometer and 100 nanometers, and the total number of this basic particle is between More than 50% of all particles in the entire material.

One nanometer is equal to one billionth of a meter. On the nanometer scale, some materials have many special functions. Nanomaterials have been widely used in people's work and life.

The European Commission explained that there are currently many definitions of nanomaterials in the world, and there is a lot of controversy. However, with the increasing popularity of this material, the confusion of its definitions has brought many inconveniences. The definition adopted on the 18th is a synthesis of authoritative scientific research results and is simple and easy to implement.

However, the European Commission also acknowledged that this definition is still incomplete, and therefore decided to revise this definition in 2014 based on the development of science and technology and the actual implementation of the definition.
