Discussion on the Determination of the Number and Position of Natural Gas Transmission Stations

In the design of natural gas pipelines in Ningbo, the first station of the gas transmission system plays a crucial role by receiving gas from the processing plant and from the downstream stations. It is equipped with multiple essential functions, including gas measurement and acceptance from the Sanshan Natural Gas Processing Plant, pipeline transportation, pigging operations, safety venting, and the recovery of residual liquids in a closed system. These features ensure efficient and safe gas handling at the initial stage of the pipeline network. The sub-transmission station serves as an intermediate point where gas is received from the upstream station and then distributed to external stations and end-users. It must be capable of receiving incoming gas, regulating pressure, and distributing it to various natural gas users. In addition, it should support pigging, safety venting, and residual liquid recovery to maintain system integrity and environmental compliance. The final station of the gas transmission system is responsible for receiving and dispatching gas to the end consumers. It includes functions such as gas reception, distribution to users, pipeline cleaning through pigging, safe discharge, and closed-loop recovery of any residual liquids. This ensures that the last segment of the pipeline operates efficiently and safely. The metering handover point is designed for measuring and transferring gas to each natural gas user. It should be able to receive gas from the distribution station and measure flow in both directions. Depending on the project's specific requirements, some metering points may also have the capability to distribute gas to other users, enhancing flexibility in the overall system. After determining a suitable pipeline route, the number and location of the gas stations are decided based on the main line direction and the locations of natural gas users. The gas transmission stations should be strategically placed along the main line to meet production and distribution needs. A total of four gas transmission stations can be established along the entire pipeline. The first station is located adjacent to the Sanshan Natural Gas Processing Plant, ensuring a smooth connection between processing and transportation. The Xiapu Sub-transmission Station is situated in the northern part of Ningbo, specifically in Lun District, where it will manage gas supply to Baoxin Stainless Steel Plant and Jianlong Iron and Steel Plant. The Zhenhai Sub-transmission Station is located in Zhenhai District, serving gas to Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, Zhenhai Power Plant, and Modern Building Materials Plant. The Yuyao Station is positioned near the Yuyao Power Plant in western Yuyao City, managing the gas supply to that facility. In the medium to long term, this station will also serve some users in Hangzhou. This strategic arrangement significantly reduces the number of gas stations and minimizes operational management points, which contributes to safer and more economical pipeline operation. It also enhances system reliability and efficiency, supporting the growing demand for natural gas in the region.
