According to the research conducted by the group, in high-rise buildings, the higher the floor, the less power a range hood needs, while lower floors require more suction power. However, the power should not exceed 50 to 1500 cubic meters per minute, as anything beyond that would be a waste of energy. It is reported that another key scientific research project under the Ministry of Construction has led to the development of the LQ-type range hood. This model is designed to meet the necessary exhaust volume requirements outlined in the "House Design Code" with a motor power as low as 90W. Lin Runquan explained to reporters that some range hoods work well on the 30th floor but may struggle in lower-level homes, which highlights the importance of understanding the performance characteristics of different range hoods.
Matching the right ventilation system for residential kitchens and bathrooms depends heavily on the characteristic curve of the range hood. In Japan, all range hood products come with detailed characteristic curves, which help users understand their performance under various conditions. However, in China, no company currently provides such graphs for their range hood products. A chief technical officer from a Chinese range hood manufacturer noted that these curves are considered trade secrets and are not disclosed publicly. In Japan, intellectual property is better protected, so companies feel safe sharing their data without fear of losing business. In contrast, Chinese companies still lack this level of protection.
During an appraisal meeting, two "Dalong" range hoods were displayed. According to the staff, these models have already been installed in a community in Beijing. Their standout feature is their ability to generate strong suction with minimal power—some models only use tens of watts yet can easily suck up a plastic basin filled with half a basin of water placed directly above the hood.
Currently, the Dalong range hoods are not available for retail sale and are exclusively used for real estate development projects. This strategy allows the company to focus on providing customized solutions rather than competing in the mass market. As the demand for energy-efficient appliances grows, the development and adoption of such advanced range hoods could significantly impact future kitchen design standards.
