The Venice Biennale 2024 continues to shine as a global hub for contemporary art, exploring the most relevant themes of our time. Whether you're an art enthusiast or just curious about the world, this year’s edition promises a unique experience. Curated by renowned Brazilian curator Adriano Pedrosa, the exhibition delves into the intersections of politics, identity, and environmental concerns, offering deep insights into today's pressing issues.
The 60th International Art Exhibition, titled Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere , runs from April 20 to November 24, 2024, at the Giardini and Arsenale. This year, the Biennale is committed to sustainability, aiming for carbon neutrality certification—building on the success of 2023. The focus is not only on reducing environmental impact but also on addressing themes like decolonization and climate change through the lens of art.
The event features 86 national pavilions across the Giardini, Arsenale, and Venice’s city center. Four new countries are making their debut: Benin, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Timor-Leste. Nicaragua, Panama, and Senegal are also presenting their own pavilions for the first time. The Italian Pavilion, curated by Luca Cerizza, showcases works by Massimo Bartolini, while the Holy See Pavilion, hosted in a women’s prison on Giudecca, explores themes of visibility and memory.
The second edition of Biennale College Arte 2023/24 highlights emerging artists from around the world. Agnes Questionmark, Joyce Joumaa, Sandra Poulson, and Nazira Karimi received grants to create new works, which are displayed as part of the main exhibition. Over 150 young talents under 30 participated, showcasing fresh perspectives on contemporary art.
The Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement were awarded to Anna Maria Maiolino and Nil Yalter, celebrating their significant contributions to the art world. Their work reflects a deep understanding of cultural and political narratives, making them fitting honorees for this year’s event.
