U.S. Develops Plastic Containers That Can Replace Glass Containers

The Dow Chemical Company’s Central Research and Development Laboratory has developed a plastic container that can replace glass containers. This plastic container is made of transparent phenoxy type thermoplastics. The polymer is produced by reacting an aromatic diglycidyl ether with a bisphenol or a bifunctional amine. Because of the polymer produced, the chain-chain interaction is very strong, so it has excellent oxygen barrier properties and good impact resistance. It is a rigid material, and even when it is used to produce single-layer containers, its oxygen barrier properties and impact resistance are good. It is also better than glass containers.
