Roll-to-roll ultra-fine line printing technology is set to bring about a significant transformation in the touch panel industry. The Industrial Technology Institute has collaborated with Japanese printing equipment manufacturers to develop this cutting-edge technology and related machinery. It enables the production of ultra-narrow bezel thin touch modules and flexible touch panels with features that surpass current standards. This innovation is expected to replace the costly yellow etching process commonly used today, offering a more precise and economical alternative.
Liu Junting, Director of the Institute of Electronics and Optoelectronics at the Industrial Technology Research Institute, explained that the width of the frame on modern narrow-bezel products is largely determined by the line width and spacing of the conductive patterns. Traditional screen printing typically achieves a line width of 60-80 microns, while gravure printing can reach 30-50 microns. The most widely used yellow photoetching process usually operates at around 30 microns. However, these technologies are becoming less capable of meeting the evolving demands of the next generation of ultra-narrow bezel and flexible touch panel designs. As a result, there is a pressing need for new conductive film printing solutions that can overcome these technical limitations and drive the industry forward.
